Shades are formed by the addition of the siennas, umbers, or black.
The umbers are in the same class with the siennas and ochres.
It contains, however, a lower percentage of the latter than in the case of umbers.
The older types of colouring matter—such as cadmium yellow, ochres, vermilion, umbers—have been superseded.
Some painters have a great liking for siennas and umbers as body colors for sleigh work.
