French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday hailed the release by Hamas of Israeli hostages still alive in the Gaza strip, saying with their release "peace becomes possible for Israel, for Gaza, and for the region".

"We want peace, and we will have peace, but peace with freedom, with sovereignty," Maduro said at an event commemorating the discovery of the Americas, celebrated in Venezuela as "Indigenous Resistance Day."

Many details for the later phases of the peace plan could be hard to reach agreement on - such as the governance of Gaza, the extent of Israeli troop withdrawal, and the disarming of Hamas.

Equally critical is the establishment of a governance model in Gaza that excludes both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, entities that have repeatedly failed to deliver peace, stability or accountability.

He has proposed the possibility of a new era of peace.
