More than 40 years after he was arrested for a murder he didn’t commit, a Southern California man accepted a $25-million wrongful conviction settlement offered by the city of Inglewood on Monday.

Police last week stressed that although the force's major investigations team were handling the case, that did not necessarily mean it was a murder.

On Tuesday, Kimmel choked up as he told viewers it was "never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man".

What was most important to him, though, was imparting that it was “never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man,” Kimmel said through tears.
