At an ICE career expo in Texas last month, the agency at times turned away anyone who didn’t already have authorization to carry a badge or an honorable discharge from the military.

Though the U.S. remains by far Israel’s largest supplier of weapons, a number of European governments have imposed complete or partial arms embargoes and prevented Israeli arms makers from participating in defense expos.

Thousands of applicants turned out for a two-day hiring expo for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Arlington, Texas, with many hoping to start a career as a deportation officer.

“It’s not difficult to get people to come here ... this is a highly desired career,” Matthew Elliston, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations assistant director, told reporters at the expo.

The defence expo, which is set to take place at Excel London from 9 to 12 September, is organised and run by a private company with backing from the government, Reuters reported.
