In four lawsuits against a network of for-profit recovery homes, attorney Karen Gold alleges that her clients were transported to California from other states, stashed in poorly supervised homes and then put on the street when their insurance ran out.

“They like the aesthetics of it. When it comes down to it, a pay phone is a rugged-ized, hardened device. It’s a piece of urban furniture that you can put on the street.”

The union has helped with groceries, assisted with bills, and is now providing health insurance for all of the 'world-class employees' at a multi-billion dollar oil company put on the street instead of bargaining in good faith for a fair contract," Gross said on Sunday.

“Is it emergency enough that you’re going to stop families from being put on the street?”

“And if we don’t have them both together, it doesn’t matter how many police officers you put on the street. We can’t continue to respond to symptoms. It’s time to respond to the underlying causes of violence in our city.”
