The Canadian government’s annual budget plan, out Nov. 4, is set to include spending and other measures aimed at lifting business investment—which in the second quarter fell to a historic low.

The latest Canadian data indicate that productivity—treated as a gauge of a country’s living standards—fell 1% nonannualized in the second quarter, and declined about 3% from a year earlier.

Profits in the third quarter rose 11 percent to $1.4 billion off of revenues of $16.7 billion, an increase of six percent from the prior year.

Management said on the second-quarter earnings call in August that its enterprise segment grew by double-digit percentages quarter over quarter, a sign that the growth is still in the early stages.

But overall volumes for beverages declined 1% — including a 12th straight quarter in which NA beverage volume fell — and volumes for convenient foods also declined 1%.
