Permanent or de facto ownership has so far been off the cards thanks to pressure from the proud Seychellois public.

TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, had been under pressure to divest its ownership in the app’s U.S. operations or face a nationwide ban, due to security concerns over the company’s ties to China.

Television station ownership groups Nexstar and Sinclair kept the program off their ABC-affiliated outlets even as Walt Disney Co.-owned ABC resumed production.

The concentration of station ownership reduces the number of independent gatekeepers who might push back against political or regulatory pressure.

It said society needed to "recognise that the costs associated with the first few years of home ownership come at a greater cost compared to those who run an existing home."
