The air-conditioning - built for Russian winters - was barely adequate in scorching Indian summers.

Temperatures will stay around average until the weekend when it will turn a little warmer but will a September heatwave lead to a so-called Indian summer?

"Mangoes, with their rich sweetness and diverse varieties, are a staple of Indian summers, and it's understandable why people want to indulge," says Rahul Baxi.

But Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan dampened hopes of an Indian summer over the next seven days, predicting that the better weather would be replaced by wet and windy conditions by next weekend.

Indian summers, which extend from March to September, are usually hot and humid.
