Most of the 21 small lynching photographs on view with the victims erased were originally made as postcards, shocking souvenirs apparently to let the folks back home know just how much the sender delights in abject cruelty.

On view until it organically faded, the public artwork phenomenon tempted fearless pedestrians to throw caution to the wind as they raced out between traffic light cycles, and dodged aggressive drivers, in an attempt to capture the perfect selfie framed by the zigzagging optical art stripes.

The clothes on view were so consistent in their style that reviewers found it difficult to guess the decade each outfit represented.

It has been on display in New York's Museum of Modern Art, although the organisation's website says it is "not on view" at the moment.

At MOCA, Yamaguchi has 10 whimsical seascapes on view: oceans with golden curtains for skies and purple waves for waters; oceans that look like they could be the backdrops to the Ballets Russes, bands of red and white shooting up from the horizon.
