Southern states are also grappling with another major concern as India prepares for its first delimitation of electoral seats in 2026 - the first since 1976.

They have established a bilateral delimitation commission tasked with agreeing on borders.

Due to uneven population growth in different parts of the country, some seats have many more voters than others and the delimitation exercise would fix that.

It was not possible to complete the delimitations and hold the elections within the constitutionally required deadline, he said.

He added that “we should be able to sit down with Turkey as reasonable adults and resolve our main difference, which is the delimitation of maritime zones in the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean.”
