US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is urging air travellers to dress better and be more civil - and it's touching a nerve at a time when many Americans consider air travel more frustrating than ever.

Washington also reversed its visa restrictions on Ghanaian travellers after months of dialogue.

He says his 28-year-old sister, a trainee lawyer, was a "very experienced traveller", so seeing her off was nothing out of the ordinary.

"We're all increasingly connected these days, and wi-fi has become more and more of an essential service for travellers. I'm not going to hold my breath, but this is a step in the right direction."
