When the burial-chamber was a grotto—that is to say, was wholly excavated from the native rock—a greater width could be obtained.

These are in the form of cylindrical shafts with a doorway at the bottom leading sideways into the burial–chamber.

In the eastern wall the usual recess was found, the floor of which was some 35 inches above the floor of the burial chamber.

At the other end of the burial-chamber is a small arched door leading into another room, also barrel-vaulted.

This burial chamber was perhaps an exact model of the cabins in which the people lived.
