President Nick Daniels, who leads the union that represents air traffic controllers, urged Congress in a statement on Friday to pass a stopgap bill to end the shutdown.

She described Proposition 50 as a stopgap measure that will return power to the commission once the urgency of today’s political upheaval has passed.

The current shutdown has happened largely because Democrats and Republicans are locked in a standoff over including an extension for Obamacare subsidies in stopgap funding legislation.

Democrats won’t vote for a stopgap measure to reopen the government, and on Thursday the Senate GOP tried another idea: Advancing a bill to fund the Defense Department for a full year.

What’s Next: Senate Majority Leader John Thune gave senators a four-day weekend and said the Senate will return on Tuesday, when the next vote on a stopgap funding measure could be scheduled.
