VC Defensa, an immigrant rights group that has been documenting immigration raids in the region, said on Instagram that one of its volunteers, whom the group identified as Leo Martinez, had been arrested.

Other investors include Haun Ventures, which focuses on crypto, Bain Capital Crypto, the blockchain arm of the private-equity firm, venture firm Lux Capital and 776, a VC firm founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

They did so over a “perceived risk of investing in what they viewed as a ‘war zone,’” said Haim Sadger, founding partner of Tel Aviv venture firm S Capital VC.

A major part of VC funding has gone into AI start-ups.

“That was why there were different points of view on whether we should automate and how much. What about the human touch? But the world is moving to automation with or without us. The assumption we have to make is that every other VC firm will do this.”
