A European Parliament vote on Thursday called for the release of "all those detained for exercising their right to freedom of expression, including political prisoners and human rights defenders" in Tunisia.

And she said Maduro's "criminal regime must be held accountable" for its "brutality," including holding thousands of "political prisoners" behind bars.

The MP was born and raised in Mozambique, where her father was living in exile after spending a decade as a political prisoner in South Africa.

Instead she was bussed over the border from Belarus into Lithuania with 51 other political prisoners.

It demanded his "immediate release, along with all political prisoners held in jail in violation of the law".
