"Piecing together 'who ate whom' in the past is true detective work," says Martin Qvarnström, researcher at the Department of Organismal Biology and lead author of the study.

Piecing together the last 11 months felt like trying to laugh at a joke I didn’t quite understand — painful, cringe, and less and less funny every time I tried to explain it.

“But here I was, even looking at the things that we’d thrown away, all of the rushes, and picturing what the edit could look like. You’re piecing together these tiny little squares, these little moments that are going to amount to so much onscreen in the end.”

So I took an old-school approach, piecing together my own trail through word of mouth, knocking on doors, and sending handwritten letters to potential sources.

Once the original film had the go-ahead by February 1992, producer and music supervisor Jeff Most began piecing together an original soundtrack, recruiting alternative artists that predominantly surfaced from the early ‘80s through the cusp of the ‘90s, and artists partly informed by O’Barr’s earlier musical references.
