Every year, Lexington—a prosperous suburb 10 miles from Boston—commemorates its role in history with a dawn battle reenactment, a pancake breakfast, and a parade.

Head south for Burien Pride, a weekend-long event that starts with a street dance party on June 7 from 5 to 11 p.m., an all-day festival with live music on June 8 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and drag queen bingo on June 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One year during my ministry, I was in charge of officiating such a service, and on that morning everything seemed to go perfectly — including the pancake breakfast that followed!

At the annual Martin Luther King Day pancake breakfast in New Hampshire, Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan told the crowd that “one of most enduring lessons of Martin Luther King’s life is that each of us has the capacity to make a difference.”

The Rotary Club of Alturas will hold a pancake breakfast before the eclipse starts, and the Alturas Lions Club will host a post-eclipse barbecue.
