Mother Earth

If someone had told me a week ago that I was a weird reincarnation of the late Mother Earth, I probably would’ve searched for the nearest exit.

Apparently, Grandma used to tell Ma something similar—that our entire family was blessed by Mother Earth.

It also means that anytime I complain about Dad’s standards being too high, Ma opens my left hand and tells me: Mother Earth has blessed you, Kwame Powell.

Let me know when Mother Earth gets Kwame a scholarship, he would say.

“To be a Queen Mother, one makes a pact with Mother Earth. They serve the world and all that is nourished by her—and in return, their families are blessed.”
