The Times confirmed the incident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, which said the driver, who is from Westminster, was verbally and physically assaulted.

The Highway Patrol said the incident unfolded around midnight on Aug. 19.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the agency is working to identify the two female passengers.

The department is “assisting the California Highway Patrol in providing protective services for former Vice President Kamala Harris until an alternate plan is established,” said Jennifer Forkish, L.A. police communications director.

California officials then put into place a plan for the California Highway Patrol to provide dignitary protection for Harris.
