Republicans want to pass a funding measure without anything else attached, but Democrats want to include a renewal of health insurance subsidies for low-income individuals set to expire at the end of the year.

In a screed published in the Hill on Sept. 18 advocating the subsidies’ expiration, Clancy attacked what he labeled “Biden’s health insurance handouts” as benefiting “even millionaires.”

Immigrants without legal status are not eligible for any federal healthcare programs, including Medicaid and health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

The tease comes as the president prepares to let the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced health insurance subsidies expire — even at the cost of a government shutdown.
