In Cameroon's largest city Douala, the regional governor said demonstrators "attacked" a gendarmerie brigade and police stations in two districts on Sunday.

It would be overseen by a committee of officers from the army, gendarmerie and police.

Meeting one of the demands of the protesters, the Senate announced Sunday the dismissal of its president, Richard Ravalomanana, a former general of the gendarmerie paramilitary police.

"We're receiving troubling reports of continued violence against protesters by the gendarmerie," the UN's human rights office said in a post on social media Friday.
