Police Scotland has set up a major investigation public portal where people can submit files and information anonymously.

“At the end of the day this is content being delivered from thousands of miles away via files,” said Comiskey, calling himself a millennial who remembers what it was like pre-smartphone.

He enlisted doctors — including leading insulin researchers — to reexamine the medical files in the six known deaths.

“You have to look at thousands of pages of confidential prison files that the public doesn’t have access to,” Hochman said.

For decades, successive governments have denied there was a secret monitoring programme - but the veterans say recently declassified files support their memories of medical staff taking blood and urine samples.
