“It’s cut down on money for advertisements, cut down on money on the ground, cut down on money to employ people,” said Joe L. Reed, the A.D.C.’s state chairman.

She also said that she was “unaware of the identity of any supplier or manufacturer of drugs that will sell them to the A.D.C. for use in executions.”

In 2015, Wendy Kelley, the director of the Arkansas Department of Correction, said that the seller of the state’s “current supply of execution drugs has made clear to me that it will not supply any additional drugs for the A.D.C. to use in executions.”

Referring to the corrections department, he added, “Instead of the one dose as required under the protocol, A.D.C. injected 15 separate doses of the drug combination, resulting in the most prolonged execution in recent memory,”

We thought at first that he might be difficult to manage, but he has been no trouble and when the Grand Duke graciously entrusted his son to our keeping without an A.D.C., it was quite easy, because it left us a spare room.
