The company in 2022 estimated that more than 100 million nonpaying households were using its service.

Another sign of exasperation: Starbucks, long the default public bathroom for American cities, will close its restrooms to nonpaying customers in an attempt to deter homeless populations.

These organizations, whose missions include bringing and keeping people off the street, have begun to evict nonpaying tenants to bring in paying ones.
