For word Percy printed words, quite forgetting that the M.E. plural is dissyllabic (word-es).

There is perhaps a reference to the sense of emblazon, which is from M.E. blazen, to blaze abroad, to proclaim.

The M.E. pronunciation was widely different from the present, especially in the case of the vowel-sounds.

There was no symbol for j in M.E., though the sound was common, in words of French origin.

The pronunciation of M.E. and of Anglo-French vowels did not materially differ.
